Photographing Fireworks

I can’t help but think that a bit of luck is involved in photographing fireworks. The pace of the fireworks show was a bit uneven. I was shooting in manual mode with a tripod and remote, with the shutter set to bulb.

As soon as one display faded, I closed the shutter and re-opened it. If I was lucky, I would capture the next set. However, sometime, quite a few seconds would elapse. Do I continue leaving the shutter open? Then, I would spot another fireworks show off to the right and by the time I had the camera pointed in the correct direction, the one on the left would resume.
